Shipping Club Members:
We will ship on schedule the week of April 27. All address changes must be made in the next two weeks, through your Member Log-in. If you plan to pick up your wine rather than ship, please change your account status or write to Kappy immediately, at [email protected]
Pick-Up Club Members:
The two Spring pick-up events are scheduled for April 12 and April 19, 1-4PM. We have big plans – A Vineyard Ladybug Release – wine pairings, tastings, lunch, live music and more. And the highlight as usual is Barbara’s Barrel Futures Program, an opportunity not to be missed! (tickets are available online now). We hope you can attend! Otherwise we will happily hold your wine for pickup at the winery over the Spring.
Wines of the Season: Big Hitters!
- 2022 Mourvedre Cellar Selection: This is a textbook example of great things happening to good wine when guided by a thoughtful winemaker. Our Travis Rhone style blend generally lays claim to all the Mourvedre brought into the winery. The 2022 harvest was quite excellent for many varietals, as shown by the enthusiasm for so many of Barbara’s vintage bottling. There was enough Mourvedre to contribute to a beautiful Rhone blend, and a generous amount to hold back for a Reserve-quality Single Varietal. Barbara tasted through the barrels, selected 5 for the blend, and left 7 to continue the slow evolution our new Barrel Cellar. Nearly 18 months after bottling the Travis (which is long gone), we are very happy to introduce this Mourvedre as a Cellar Selection bottling, well deserving of its new black label. 140 cases. Club Only.
We recommend this bottle to Hold until the winter returns to the Hill Country. - 2023 Petite Sirah: I will admit a blind spot for Petite Sirah when I completed my studies in France some years ago. No longer! Barbara proved it in 2020 with her first vintage of Hill Country Petite Sirah grown at Hoover Valley near Burnet. Honestly it was sooo good that everyone took notice, including the original grower and the new owners of said vineyard. (Now known as Uplift Vineyard). We contacted them again to see if they would be willing to part with a small parcel in 2023, and we were happy when they accepted our request (although at a higher price than we offered…!). Now the 2023 is coming to our tasting room. And you will be very pleased, but not surprised, at how well Barbara has guided this wine to an absolute show-stopper of a wine. Huge is the new Petite. Just you wait!
We are pouring this at the wine Club release event without decanting. Sensational. Drink or Hold.
- 2023 Petit Verdot: More and more we are smitten by the power, consistency and confidence from Petit Verdot grown in Texas. This is the third vintage of PV grown at Lahey Vineyards, a vineyard Barbara knows very well. If you are a head coach filling out your starting lineup, you pencil in PV because you know its going to be an all-star caliber player who will do such a great job for the team, with very few penalties.
We suggest hold this big boy until the Fall, or decant 1 hour.
Finally, you know how symbolic the Spring release is to Siboney. As we write these notes, just in the last 30 days, the Hill Country has endured a “four seasons winter”, with temperatures as low as 15 and as high as 93. Some rain events, but not enough to break the drought. And just this week, the “St Patricks Day Freeze” took a toll on many vineyards throughout the State. Fortunately, for reasons we do not fully understand, our site was largely spared. That said, the vines are now fully awake and engaged, with bud break declared today March 20. Renewal is at hand.
We welcome you to join us at one of the Spring Club Release events on April 12 or 19. Tickets are available on the website (www.SiboneyCellars.com/Events) and we are elated to see how many of you are already coming. We will have our ladybug release in the vineyard. In the presence of so many (and many children!) this is always a moment to thank you all for everything you bring to us, to renew our own dedication to what we do here, and appreciate the time you give us. For those who are not in the Hill Country this Spring, we wish you the best and hope you enjoy this very special Spring Release.
On behalf of the team at Siboney, thank you for your energy, and the time we share together. We don’t forget it.
Abrazos, Miguel
