  • 2022 Mourvedre Cellar Selection NEW!
  • 2023 Petit Verdot  NEW!
  • 2023 Petite Sirah  NEW!

Shipping Club Members:

We will ship on schedule the week of April 27.  All address changes must be made in the next two weeks, through your Member Log-in.  If you plan to pick up your wine rather than ship, please change your account status or write to Kappy immediately, at [email protected]

Pick-Up Club Members:

The two Spring pick-up events are scheduled for April 12 and April 19, 1-4PM.   We have big plans – A Vineyard Ladybug Release – wine pairings, tastings, lunch, live music and more. And the highlight as usual is Barbara’s Barrel Futures Program, an opportunity not to be missed! (tickets are available online now).  We hope you can attend!  Otherwise we will happily hold your wine for pickup at the winery over the Spring.

Wines of the Season:  Big Hitters!

  • 2022 Mourvedre Cellar Selection:  This is a textbook example of great things happening to good wine when guided by a thoughtful winemaker.  Our Travis Rhone style blend generally lays claim to all the Mourvedre brought into the winery.  The 2022 harvest was quite excellent for many varietals, as shown by the enthusiasm for so many of Barbara’s vintage bottling.  There was enough Mourvedre to contribute to a beautiful Rhone blend, and a generous amount to hold back for a Reserve-quality Single Varietal.  Barbara tasted through the barrels, selected 5 for the blend, and left 7 to continue the slow evolution our new Barrel Cellar.  Nearly 18 months after bottling the Travis (which is long gone), we are very happy to introduce this Mourvedre as a Cellar Selection bottling, well deserving of its new black label.  140 cases. Club Only.
We recommend this bottle to Hold until the winter returns to the Hill Country.
  • 2023 Petite Sirah: I will admit a blind spot for Petite Sirah when I completed my studies in France some years ago.  No longer!  Barbara proved it in 2020 with her first vintage of Hill Country Petite Sirah grown at Hoover Valley near Burnet.  Honestly it was sooo good that everyone took notice, including the original grower and the new owners of said vineyard.  (Now known as Uplift Vineyard).  We contacted them again to see if they would be willing to part with a small parcel in 2023, and we were happy when they accepted our request (although at a higher price than we offered…!). Now the 2023 is coming to our tasting room.  And you will be very pleased, but not surprised, at how well Barbara has guided this wine to an absolute show-stopper of a wine.  Huge is the new Petite.  Just you wait!
We are pouring this at the wine Club release event without decanting.  Sensational.  Drink or Hold.
  • 2023 Petit Verdot:  More and more we are smitten by the power, consistency and confidence from Petit Verdot grown in Texas. This is the third vintage of PV grown at Lahey Vineyards, a vineyard Barbara knows very well. If you are a head coach filling out your starting lineup, you pencil in PV because you know its going to be an all-star caliber player who will do such a great job for the team, with very few penalties.
We suggest hold this big boy until the Fall, or decant 1 hour.

Finally, you know how symbolic the Spring release is to Siboney. As we write these notes, just in the last 30 days, the Hill Country has endured a “four seasons winter”, with temperatures as low as 15 and as high as 93.  Some rain events, but not enough to break the drought. And just this week, the “St Patricks Day Freeze” took a toll on many vineyards throughout the State.  Fortunately, for reasons we do not fully understand, our site was largely spared.  That said, the vines are now fully awake and engaged, with bud break declared today March 20.  Renewal is at hand.

We welcome you to join us at one of the Spring Club Release events on April 12 or 19.  Tickets are available on the website (www.SiboneyCellars.com/Events) and we are elated to see how many of you are already coming.   We will have our ladybug release in the vineyard. In the presence of so many (and many children!) this is always a moment to thank you all for everything you bring to us, to renew our own dedication to what we do here, and appreciate the time you give us. For those who are not in the Hill Country this Spring, we wish you the best and hope you enjoy this very special Spring Release.

On behalf of the team at Siboney, thank you for your energy, and the time we share together.  We don’t forget it.

Abrazos, Miguel

Take a ride on the wine carousel! The spring collection blooms in the tasting room and the club room this month. #petitverdot #mourvèdre #petitesirah #semillon #siboney
Out of this world. #artemis #nasa
Just got this new gadget. It’s called a “radio”. Once you plug it in, you have to master a rotary dial to “tune in” stations already broadcasting content. It’s easy don’t worry. Just rotate the dial and the needle points to different numbers on two different sources. They call those AM and FM so you do have that as a learning curve.

Background: Turns out there are “radio waves” all around us and this Victrola has a little wire coming out the back that can magically intercept them and direct the passing signal to speakers. It When you find something interesting it has another feature — you can make it louder by turning a different rotary switch. I just got up from my chair and tried it, in true FAFO spirit. Works great!

This is just fantastic and I felt compelled to bring it to your attention.

No streaming required. No WiFi or subscriptions needed. No service outages from local internet providers.

Amazing. Hope it catches on.

Oh there’s also something called a “Bluetooth” switch that somehow manages to receive and play music you might have on your phone.

Will wonders ever cease.

Go Victrola!!
Our Premium Brand for this Release #11: Micallef Cigars - Esteli, Nicaragua

We are thrilled to announce the return of Micallef Cigars to Siboney for our Premium feature. The Micallef Cigar company is, perhaps, new to many. We featured one Micallef in August 2024, and it was so highly regarded we knew we would have them back for the full featured premium spotlight in a future release. With the introduction of their new “color” series, the timing is perfect for the return and presentation of this fantastic boutique cigar producer. The founder, Mr. Al Micallef of Weatherford Texas, has entrepreneurial DNA in his roots. In 2016, as an avid Cigar Lover, he took the next step and partnered with a venerable family in the tobacco business dating back to 1934 in Cuba. The Gomez-Sanchez family has roots in Pinar del Rio. With a history including Partagas and H. Upmann, and a fully operational factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, the family heritage of growing tobacco, hand-crafting vitolas, and creating an authentic brand are all essential attributes of Micallef Cigars.

We have a fantastic day on tap.

Sunday March 22 at @siboneycellars.
This is Cigar Club Release #11. The club only Siboney could create.
First steps of Spring are emerging at @siboneycellars! Texas Mountain Laurel and Redbud lead the way, and the overseed grass - dormant for the winter - was finally activated by recent rains.

Won’t be long for the vineyard to emerge. Just you wait!
Wine brought us everything we love. And nothing we don’t. #siboney #WineIsLove
Cigar Talk:
We get questions about Cuba. Whats happening in Cuba. When can we travel to Cuba. When can we organize a trip to Cuba….

We are not going to Cuba. You are not going to Cuba. Not for a while yet…

Update: “In late January, the Financial Times reported that Cuba had less than a single month’s worth of oil in reserve. Already, the country’s energy stockpiles appear to be dwindling. Havana informed international air carriers this week, for example, that it will no longer be able to refuel commercial jets on Cuban tarmacs.”

Whatever is happening is going to take time. Whether the Cuban government can twist out of this submission hold, or tap out, remains to be seen. They never have tapped out in 66 years.

Even though humanitarian aid continues, be certain that the situation is quite seriously deteriorating. Obviously it has already been, and will continue to be very hard on the Cuban people. A very severe test. They are marching in Havana. The prospect of Freedom brings forth courage like nothing else. Abrazos to all
